According to the Budapest Memorandum, Russia is not obliged to recognize the coup in Ukraine and its rejection of its neutral status, Deputy Head of the Russian Delegation Konstantin Vorontsov said at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.

"In connection with the groundless allegations of Russia's violation of the Budapest Memorandum, we would like to remind you that the memorandum is a component of package agreements, which, in the form of a political declaration, equally imposed obligations on all participants," RIA Novosti quoted Vorontsov as saying.

He noted that Russia strictly complied with the signed documents.

According to him, the agreements of 1994 were undermined by the US course towards NATO expansion.

"We are not obliged to recognize the coups d'état in Ukraine and its rejection of its neutral status," the diplomat added.
