According to consistent media reports, a theft of an exceptionally valuable piece of luggage has occurred at Barcelona airport. After a chase, two people were arrested, reports »El País«, among others.

The theft occurred late Wednesday evening. Thieves had stolen a suitcase with jewels and watches worth an estimated eight and a half million euros in front of the check-in counter of an airline, reports "La Vanguardia". The suitcase of a luxury brand contained, among other things, a ring costing around four million euros, other jewelry and many thousands of euros in cash. It belonged to a Russian family who wanted to check in at El Prat Airport for a flight to Abu Dhabi.

Thanks to the security cameras, it was possible to quickly identify the car with which the perpetrators escaped. The man and the woman were stopped and arrested after a pursuit of more than a hundred kilometers on the highway just before the French border, it said. "El Periódico de Catalunya" reported that the luggage had also been seized.
