Sorpesee in the Sauerland: 19-year-old goes down after a seizure in the lake

A young man was riding his stand-up paddle board on Lake Sorpe in North Rhine-Westphalia when he suddenly suffered a seizure. Despite a large-scale search, he could not be found.

The police have stopped the search for a 19-year-old who had fallen into the water in the Sorpesee in the Sauerland while stand-up paddling. After all possibilities had been exhausted, no new search operation for the missing person was planned, said a spokeswoman for the police in the Hochsauerland district.

According to witnesses, the young man had developed a cramp, fell from the paddle board into the water and immediately sank. This was announced by the police.

The accident happened on Sunday afternoon near the dam wall. The rescue workers, led by the fire brigade, had also searched for the man with a helicopter, rescue divers and dogs. In the evening around 21 p.m., the mission was stopped.
