Highlights: Gnestapendeln handed over a petition with over 5,000 signatures to Region Stockholm's traffic regional councillor Anton Fendert. The association demands that trains within the current, reduced, timetable should run and that cancellations of trains at short notice should not occur. MTR, which is responsible for running the trains, has previously said that the train problems on the route will last until this autumn, citing a shortage of train drivers. After the trouble with the commuter trains between Gensta and Södertälje, the association Gnestapendeln has had enough. On Tuesday, they handed over a list of over 5,000 names to the governing politicians in Region Stockholm, with responsibility for public transport. – Our demands are modest, says Diana Ekström Ho, chairman of the Gnestapendeln Association.

According to the regular timetable, it takes less than 20 minutes to travel from Gnesta to Södertälje south to be able to travel from there either south or north.

But the spring has been difficult for travelers. Greatly reduced traffic, replacement buses with almost triple travel time and, not least, cancelled departures at short notice are some of the problems they have had to deal with.

MTR, which is responsible for running the trains, and which has been procured by Region Stockholm, has previously said that the train problems on the route will last until this autumn, citing a shortage of train drivers.

"Rye in the back"

On Tuesday afternoon, the association Gnestapendeln handed over a petition with over 5,000 signatures to Region Stockholm's traffic regional councillor Anton Fendert (MP).

The association demands that trains within the current, reduced, timetable should run and that cancellations of trains at short notice should not occur.

"It gives me the strength to place even higher demands on our contractor," he says.
