6/9/2023, 2:56:29 PM

Daniil Medvedev is a Grand Slam winner, however, it's clear that the Russian player has struggled at Wimbledon over the years. In terms of recent performances, Medvedev has been in excellent form so far this season. But does Medvedev have what it takes to make an impact in London this July?

Can Anyone Stop Djokovic?

Unsurprisingly, Novak Djokovic will head to Wimbledon as the tournament favorite in the men’s section. The sensational Serb has a stunning record at SW19, winning seven times. Looking at the latest tennis odds, Djokovic is priced at just +120 to successfully defend his crown. For those wanting a bet on Wimbledon, Medvedev is available at +700.

Djokovic is a man in red-hot form right now, and the multiple Grand Slam winner will be tough to beat in the English capital. However, there are several players ready to knock Djokovic off his perch, and the battle to be Wimbledon champion could be a thrilling one this year.

Medvedev Wins the 2021 US Open

Since turning professional in 2014, Medvedev has not quite lived up to the billing. Huge things were expected of the Russian when he burst onto the scene, but Medvedev had to wait until 2021 to finally realize his dream.

Medvedev went all the way at the 2021 US Open at UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. It was a sensational showing by the Russian star, as he lost just one set all tournament.

Medvedev beat the likes of Richard Gasquet, Dominik Koepfer, Pablo Andujar, and Daniel Evans in the early rounds in New York. He then won 3-1 and 3-0 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals to set up a mouth-watering final clash with Djokovic.

Medvedev blew Djokovic away in the final, winning in straight sets to get his hands on the first Grand Slam trophy of his career. He became the first Russian man to win a singles title since Marat Safin won the Australian Open back in 2005.

Medvedev has also reached two Australian Open finals, but he has never performed well at Wimbledon. His best competition in London came in 2021 when he reached round four. Medvedev was beaten by Polish ace Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round two years ago.

Medvedev will be desperate to go far at Wimbledon this year. He heads to the English capital as one of the favorites after a brilliant 2023 season so far.

Medvedev won the Rotterdam Open before beating Andy Murray in the Qatar Open final. He secured the third win of an outstanding February at the Dubai Tennis Championships. He followed that up with a Miami Open victory in March.

Medvedev picked up the Italian Open in May, which was his sixth career Masters success. After the victory in Rome, Medvedev shot up to second in the world rankings.

Medvedev is having a great ATP Tour season, but he must start producing in the biggest tournaments. With two Grand Slams left this year, can Medvedev add to his 2021 US Open win? He is certainly one to watch out for at Wimbledon this July.
