President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed an amendment to the country's Constitution, which implies the renaming of the capital from Nur-Sultan to Astana.

“The head of state signed the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” Tokayev’s press service said in a statement.

Earlier, the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved amendments to the Constitution on the seven-year term of the presidency and the renaming of the capital.

Prior to this, Tokayev agreed to include in the draft amendments to the Constitution the proposal of Kazakh deputies to return the capital of the republic to its former name Astana.
