North Korea launched what appear to be two ballistic missiles eastward. According to the Yonhap news agency, this happened after Pyongyang warned the West "of stronger" retaliation in the event of sanctions for missile tests.

North Korea fired short-range missiles from a facility in northwestern Pyonganpuk-to province near the border with China, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

On the morning of January 14, the Yonhap news agency, citing South Korean military personnel, reported that North Korea had launched an unidentified projectile in an easterly direction.
