Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, commented in an interview with RT on the decision of all Russian regions to make December 31 a day off.

“I think this is a good idea, because it applies to all citizens of the Russian Federation ... If the regions had different opinions and different decisions, it would not be so happy,” Bessarab said.

The parliamentarian also recalled the words of the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who had previously recommended the governors to make December 31 a day off at the regional level.

“When the president made a call, it was clear that all the regions would respond and make December 31 a day off,” the deputy added.

Earlier, North Ossetia, the last of the Russian regions, declared December 31 a day off.
