Anecdote: A ball hooked on the drum: first anecdote of the 2020 Christmas Lottery draw
El Gordo. 72.897, where did he play?
Lottery. Third prize of the Christmas Lottery: 52,472
It was eleven thirty in the morning and the children of the San Ildefonso School were singing the number 52472, the third prize of the National Lottery.
In Barbate (Cádiz), the humble town of Cadiz, there are only two lottery administrations.
And Diego Castillo, the owner of one of them, at number 6 Baessipo Street, does not remember the time the number he sold came out.
What he does know is that, from so many calls,
his mobile phone has broken down
, it has not stopped ringing since then and he hardly hears what they say, between the phone and the joy at the door.
His administration has sold 90 series of 172 of that third prize:
900 tenths, 45 million euros.
95 percent of them have been sold to two carnival clubs.
"The rest, few numbers, at the window, in recent days, to people from here," he explains.
The pandemic devastated the economy, health ... but not with the carnival, which was held in February, before the covid-19 devastated everything.
The entities will close an unfortunate 2020 with many months of closed doors,
but knowing that they have distributed an injection of joy and deserved euros.
Both clubs are twinned.
The Los Robinsones rock is in Barbate, and the other, called Los Hombres del Campo, is in Chiclana de la Frontera.
The Peña Chiclana, 43 kilometers from Barbate, is chaired by a local policeman
and has distributed one million euros among a score of Local Police officers from the
municipal staff.
Some have received the news while on the street, serving.
"Satisfaction is to distribute the Fat"
The Los Robinsones club, in Barbate, has sold 380 tickets, distributing 19 million euros.
Antonio Morales, its president, had a tenth, and his family as many.
He celebrates it at the administration door singing and dancing.
It is not for less.
The town has led the unemployment and low income per capita ranks for decades.
The pandemic has been the last straw.
With 22,518 inhabitants and 4,731 unemployed in November
, Diego Castillo's satisfaction is "immense. This is a needy town, of humble and hard-working families.
This is a blessed madness. I believe that the satisfaction that I have
, is what any owner of an administration, it is that the prize he distributes does not only fall to two or three families ... but to distribute it to many, which is what has happened. To many, many families of the town, in need, and also to retirees with very little pension. They have reached 50,000 euros per tenth ... this relieves the economy of Barbate ".
Barbate is a town that got used to losing, or carrying the reputation of the negative, starting with drug trafficking.
Except in summer, when thousands of tourists collapse Los Caños de Meca or Zahara de los Atunes, which belongs to the town, but is an Autonomous Local Entity.
The mayor of the town, Miguel Molina, tells EL MUNDO that five days ago
they took the joy of knowing that Barbate is going to be declared a Tourist Municipality
by the Junta de Andalucía in the last government council of 2020. That is why , what his people have finally won, he is excited.
Mayor "very happy"
"I am very happy. And it has not touched me, but as if I had. We have prayed a lot ...
Barbate needed this rain of millions, due to its unemployment conditions
, for everything that has worsened with the pandemic. .. ", lists the mayor.
"This is also an injection of morale.
Many families who resorted and were going to resort to us, due to their situation plus the crisis, are no longer going to need help
."
The news has fallen like a bomb of joy in the people of Cadiz, precisely on the eve of the draw for the Hazas de la Suerte, an old tradition of neighboring Vejer de la Frontera and Barbate that is coupled with the draw of the National Lottery.
Organized by the City Council, today they are raffling out what the 124 farms or farmlands of Barbateñas produce
to supply the winners with what the sea did not contribute to the economy.
Like the mayor, Diego Castillo, of the Administration, did not buy any tenth of the 52472. They do not care.
The 45 million euros of the third prize, distributed by the town, triples the annual budget of the City of Barbate.
