"Formula E" is an international race, also known as F1, for electric cars that emit no exhaust gas while running. It has been held in major cities around the world such as New York and Rome, and on the 30th, it was held for the first time in Japan in Koto Ward, Tokyo. I will.

The course includes 2.585 km of public roads surrounding Tokyo Big Sight, and on the 29th, fans visited the course area and took photos in advance of the race on the 30th.

A test drive was held from 4:30 p.m., and fans enjoyed watching electric cars run at speeds of over 300 km/h.

A man in his 60s who visited said, ``I've never seen an electric car race before, and I'm curious about what the speed and sound are like, so I'm planning to go see the race tomorrow.'' .

Eleven teams from eight countries including Japan, the UK, Germany, and China are participating in the race, and the main event is scheduled to begin around 3pm tomorrow.

Tokyo hopes to boost the spread of electric vehicles

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government hopes that Formula E will support the spread of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), such as electric cars and fuel cell cars that do not emit carbon dioxide while driving.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting efforts to popularize ZEVs as a measure against climate change, and in 2018 set a goal of increasing the proportion of passenger cars in Tokyo to 50% of new car sales by 2030.

As a concrete form of support, we are providing subsidies of up to 850,000 yen per unit to individuals and businesses who purchase them.

However, according to the Tokyo metropolitan government, as of 2021, it remains at 4.7%.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has cited the lack of sufficient charging equipment for electric vehicles and the small number of vehicle models as challenges to the widespread use of electric vehicles, and is currently considering installing charging equipment on public roads.

Rental car company: “The more charging facilities we have, the more widespread it will become.”

The rental car company in Kiyose City, Tokyo handles approximately 240 cars.

However, there are no zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) such as electric cars or fuel cell cars.

The company says that the main reasons for this are that there are not enough charging facilities for electric cars and that there are few types of cars.

Kenichi Nakagawa, CEO of Nippon Rental Lease Tokyo, said, ``Customers do not have a desire to use electric cars, and considering that they have to find out where they can charge their cars when renting a car, they are more likely to use gasoline cars. It's easy. I think it will become more popular in the future if the number of charging facilities increases and it becomes easier to use."
